In this episode I discuss the issue of representation - who gets to represent a religion? Why? and how should we discuss it critically today? The discussion consists mainly of the example of the Isma'ili Muslims, whose doctrines and ideas have often differed dramatically from that of the mainstream. The history of the Assassins spans thousands of years, from the dawn of humanity until the modern era. Though the Assassins in their modern capacity were only founded during the Middle Ages, their predecessors were notably active during the end of the reigns of King Xerxes I, Emperor Qin Shi Huang and Alexander the Great, and into Ptolemaic Egypt and the Roman Empire. After their rebirth as the Assassins, they operated throughout the rest of history.
